Although undoubtedly the most loyal beings on Earth, so many dogs end up on the streets, forced to live a sad life. It was also the case of Cosmo, a gentle Saint Bernard. Thankfully for him, his story has the happiest ending!
Even though he’s nothing but a sweetheart, the 2-year-old gentle giant never enjoyed how it feels like to get back the love and comfort he unconditionally offered. More, he lived his entire life outside. But the things got even worst, when his owner – a breeder in Nebraska – decided to surrender him to a shelter.
Shortly after he was brought at the Hearts United for Animals, every volunteer here fell in love with Cosmo. Judging by how adorable he is, it did not take too long until someone decided to adopt him. When they first came across a few snaps of Cosmo, Jane and her husband Geoff knew this would be their furry companion. And even they were 1,500 miles away, the two hurried to meet the gentle Cosmo.
“There was a photo of Cosmo just looking up at the camera like ‘please take me home’, and he was looking right at us,” Jane recalls. “When I decided I was going to fly to Nebraska, rent a car, and drive home with a 130-pound dog, I was pretty sure that most of the world would think I was crazy.”
Anyway, for Jane and Geoff it worth every single moment of that trip. As for Cosmo, he finally found the love and the warm home he ever deserved. Though when they’ve met in Nebraska it was love at first belly rub, when they got back at their home in the upstate of New York, Cosmo was quite nervous upon stepping in a house, for the very first time. But he eventually found the courage to do it and his reaction is nothing but heart-melting!
“It’s nice to see him on a big space, see him spread out and put his belly on a cool floor, and just know he’s finally staying in a space, a place where can feel happy and comfortable,” Jane said.
