Selfless Golden Retriever gently comforts sick mini horse

When it comes to caring of those in need, nothing compares with a dog’s heart. Turns out, the man’s best friend is not just gentle and kind, but also incredible selfless. And this Golden Retriever is no different. Thanks to her, a heartbroken, emaciated tiny horse got a second chance to live

When found Sammy, an abandoned mini horse, wandering on the streets, the volunteers at Carolina Equine Rescue & Assistance, in North Carolina were in shock. The poor little creature was “just skin and bones” and he could barely walk when they brought him at the center. The helpless animal looked completely heartbroken and seemed there’s nothing that could save him, until a gentle Golden Retriever stepped in.

Molly, a 3-year-old dog knew Sammy need someone he can trust, someone to be there for him, someone to comfort him. Selfless and kind by her nature, the softhearted pup showed Sammy how much she cares of him. Lucky for us, the director at the center caught on camera a heart-melting moment of the two!

“Molly truly has an exceptional sense of knowing when one of the animals doesn’t feel good or sad. She very gently introduces herself. This is her job and she is very good at it as you can see,” Darlene Kindle, director of the centre, wrote in a Facebook post. “She loves everyone including all the animals we have on the farm – especially loves the minis she can reach them much easier. Sammy the mini that she is comforting just came into CERA’s program. He is nothing but skin and bones and scared. ”

Thankfully, Molly’s love and kindness is all Sammy needs on his hard road to a fully recover. And despite his extremely poor condition, the staff at the center hopes he will get well soon. With this adorable dog by his side, I have no doubt of that.

“Sam continues to improve everyday,” Kindle added. “His personality is still a love bug. His appetite is great he continues to drink plenty of water. Molly has taught Sam her Walmart greeter techniques. Every time someone walks in the barn he gives them the cutest whinny. ”
