It never gets any less heartbreaking for animals lovers to hear about these creatures receiving an unacceptable treatment . Judge Michael Cicconetti presides various cases in his hometown of Painesville, Ohio. He is also known for his creative judgment calls all over the country. Fortunately, judge’s compassion for animals carries over into the courtroom though. And he found the perfect way to draw awareness to the improper behavior against the furry companions of his city.
While the common approach didn’t seemed to work, he found a really creative way to sentence people who don’t treat animals well. For instance, one woman found herself in Cicconetti’s courtroom after her dog was found living in unsuitable conditions. The judge concluded would fit for the owner to spend a day as her dog did.
“I want you to go down to the county dump, to the landfill, and I want them to find the stinkiest, smelliest, God-awful place they can find in that dump,” the judge said. ” I want you to sit there for eight hours tomorrow, to think about what you did to that dog while you smell the odor. If you puke, you puke.”
Another offender had abandoned 35 kittens in the woods. So Judge Cicconetti gave her jail time, a fine, and ordered her to spend one night in the woods by herself. “How would you like to be dumped off at a metro park late at night, spend the night listening to the coyotes … listening to the raccoons around you in the dark night, and sit out there in the cold not knowing where you’re going to get your next meal, not knowing when you are going to be rescued?, ” Mr. Cicconetti said.
Judge Cicconetti hopes that dolling out these creative sentences will spread awareness about animals that are not receiving the proper treatment — and the consequences that come with it. He also hopes mental evaluations will eventually be required for situations like this.
