Imagine spending your entire life in a junkyard and a chilly garage, never knowing the comfort of a warm bed. For Sundae, a coonhound/Labrador retriever mix, that was her reality until a rescue organization came to her aid.
Sundae was rescued from a dog-hoarding situation in Oklahoma City by the Country Roads Animal Rescue Society. Despite giving birth to a litter of pups, she had never stepped foot inside a home. That all changed when her foster mother showed her the joy of a cozy bed. As soon as Sundae laid down to rest, her face filled with relief.
With her newfound comfort, Sundae felt safe and secure. It was hard to believe that she had never been an indoor dog before. Her foster mom, Mugglequeen, shared on Reddit, “We’ve had her for about a week, and you’d never know she’s never been an indoor dog before.” Mugglequeen described Sundae as well-behaved, toilet trained, and incredibly kind inside the house.
Sundae was aptly named by her foster mom, who saw the sweetness reflected in her personality and the beautiful chocolate, vanilla, and caramel hues on her face. Initially wary of men, Sundae started to warm up to Mugglequeen’s boyfriend after he placed a pair of his shorts on her favorite spot—the bed.
Now, Sundae is the sweetest little girl, eagerly cuddling with her foster mom at every opportunity. Mugglequeen shared, “She loves to sleep as close to me as possible in bed. I feel she’s just making up for almost eight years of no affection.”
After years of neglect, Sundae is finally receiving the medical care she deserves. While she was found to have heartworms and required dental work, her overall health is good. Currently, Sundae’s main task is waiting for the perfect family to fall in love with her puppies, who are being cared for by other foster families.
Mugglequeen explained that Sundae’s ideal forever family would have a relaxed lifestyle and plenty of patience to help her continue to come out of her shell and gain confidence. Until then, Sundae will stay with her foster mom, receiving the love and care she deserves.
