Believe it or not, the bees play a crucial role in our lives. Around 70 % of the world’s agriculture depends exclusively on bees. Needless to mention the pollination is the bees’ job, although the plants would not be able to reproduce, therefore the fauna would have been gone in a very short time. Therefore, these little hard workers have earned their fame. Recently, the bees have been declared the most important living beings on Earth.
But, even if you’re a super-insect with a reputation of a tireless worker, you still need some sleep. And what a better place to take a nap, then a flower. Thankfully, a wildlife photographer managed to capture a couple of bees while having their siesta after a busy morning. The result?…just as adorable as it sounds!
Joe Neely went for a walk with his fiance on the flowering fields in Arizona, when captured these special shots. “The story behind these photos [begins when] me and my fiancé Niccole went out to find poppy flowers,”the 38-year-old photographer from Phoenix told Bored Panda. “On the way back we saw this patch of pink flowers just off the highway, so we stopped to take some photos.”
According to Forest Service at the United States Department of Agriculture, this bee species is known as Diadasia diminuta or the globe mallow bee. They have been named after their favorite flowers, the Globe Mallows. The species it’s only found in the wild areas and they play a huge role in the flower’s reproduction.
“I came over and studied it for a while, and more bees showed up. Soon, all the vacant flowers were occupied, and this one bee was left out. She crawled over to this open flower and got inside with the other one. I was watching as he stumbled around almost drunk-like and then got settled in,” Neely said.
To capture the adorable photos, Neely used “a Nikon d750 and a 150mm macro lens along with an R1C1 Nikon macro flash.”
Unfortunately, despite their crucial role, almost 90% of the their population disappeared in the last few years, because of the uncontrolled use of pesticides, deforestation or lack of flowers. To better understand the importance of the bees, watch the video bellow!
