Couple Drives For Hours To Save Grandfather’s Dog Before He Is Left Alone

It is heartbreaking to think about the number of animals left behind after the death of their elderly owners.

For the overweight Australian Shepherd, the future is bleak after the death of his owner from COVID-19. When the owner’s grandson, Ashton Hart, heard the news, he wondered if his grandfather had a pet that needed a new home.

Hart hasn’t spoken to his grandfather in 6 years, so he’s not sure what animal he has, but when he found out he had a dog, he knew he had to get there quickly to save his grandfather’s furry friend.

Her grandfather’s dog, now named Oatmilk Latte, had most likely been shot down, so she and her husband decided to drive for three hours to save him.

“It wasn’t a question (if) we would adopt him — my husband has wanted a dog for a while, and we’ve just started parenting and will start volunteering at PAWS to try and find new friends,” she said. Hart to The Dodo.

“I worked primarily in animal activism for my adult career before buying my business, so there’s no way I’m letting it down.”

When they found his grandfather’s dog, he was in bad shape; he was overweight and covered with hairy fur. The couple also suspected that the Oatmilk Latte might have some health issues after being mistreated, but they didn’t care, in their mind this dog was already theirs.

Despite his condition, Hart knows his grandfather still loves his Oatmilk Latte – and the dog clearly loves him too.

“Even though she was very, very sweet, she must have been grieving,” Hart said. “Every day we have it now, it gets a little bit better, but it’s a process.

“Losing someone is hard, especially for dogs. They depend on us for everything. Aside from my grandfather’s neglect of keeping dogs healthy, I assume he loves his pets in his own way. ”

Now with a new exercise regimen and diet plan, along with lots of veterinary care, oat milk is on its way to recovery. Hart and her husband now cannot imagine their life without their sweet friend.

“We don’t know what it’s going to be like, but it’s perfect for us,” Hart said.

Thank goodness for these two animal lovers; Oat Milk Latte now has a new home filled with love and the opportunity for a healthier, happier lifestyle.
