Any escape into the wilderness and the animal kingdom, no matter how trivial, is always welcome! The wildlife soothes the soul and pleases the eye!
What a wildlife photographer wants is some alone time in the depths of the wilderness and some animals to erase the loneliness. A wildlife photographer could not ask for more!
Dolph Volker works as a volunteer at the Cheetah Experience in South Africa. The non-profit is the home of endangered and threatened species, including cheetahs, leopards, male non-breeding lions, servals, caracals, African wildcats, wolves, meerkats, and a Siberian tiger.

This wildlife photographer and zoologist had to undergo something that completely changed his life. His loving dog died in his own hands leaving him heartbroken and overwhelmed. Filled with deep sorrow, he decided to do his best to fight for animal rights and raise awareness for endangered species. He often uses his vacation time and savings to volunteer at the Cheetah Experience.
Cheetahs are normally very shy and you have to work hard to gain their confidence. Dolph tried very hard to be friends with the cheetahs and the hard work finally paid off.
One day, tired from being in the sun, Dolph decided to take a nap under a tree. A cheetah named Eden saw him, walked up to him, sniffed him, and decided to cuddle with him! Dolph was speechless when he opened his eyes!
This was the beginning of a strong friendship. Eden sees Dolph as someone who belongs to her own species; she purrs, sniffles him, cuddles him and nibbles him. Dolph now spends most of his time in the company of cheetahs, and is even known as “The Cheetah Whisperer.”
Here is a video of Dolph with the majestic animal!
